According to ABC News,

Tomorrow, Wednesday April 1, marks two years since Australian woman Zomi Frankcom was killed, along with six of her colleagues, in an IDF strike in Gaza. Her family is still waiting for a personal apology and compensation from the Israeli government, as well as the results of an investigation by the Israeli Military Advocate General.

Zomi Frankcom’s brother, Mal, expressed his pain on the anniversary, stating that the lack of justice and closure has been difficult for the family. “There hasn’t been any kind of justice served or any movement with the case,” he told Radio National Breakfast. Despite the ongoing investigation, he noted that updates have been scarce, leaving the family feeling increasingly disillusioned.

During a recent address at the National Press Club, Israel’s ambassador to Australia, Hillel Newman, denied that the investigation had been abandoned. He stated that he would check on its progress but acknowledged that the judicial process regarding the soldiers involved is lengthy. The IDF has confirmed that two officers were dismissed over the strike, which was deemed a violation of engagement rules.

Mal Frankcom highlighted that an Australian review of the incident indicated significant failures in IDF procedures leading to the deaths. The report recommended an apology and compensation for Zomi’s family, which remains unfulfilled. Independent MP Zali Steggall has called on the Israeli ambassador and the Australian government to take stronger actions to secure justice for Zomi Frankcom.

In memory of Zomi, Mal Frankcom plans to attend a vigil in Sydney to honor her life and contributions. The family is also considering establishing a humanitarian award in her name, with any potential compensation directed towards that initiative. A plaque and tree have already been dedicated in her honor by the Bankstown-Canterbury Council.
