Arabic version: ثنائي الأب وابنته يكملان رحلة اليخت الملحمية إلى النرويج
Rob Donald and his daughter Freya have successfully sailed their 9.8-metre wooden yacht, ‘Misha’, from Lake Macquarie, NSW, Australia, to Norway, marking a significant return to the yacht’s roots. The journey, which began in March 2025, has covered 18,000 nautical miles (30,000 kilometres), an adventure filled with challenges and memorable experiences.
According to ABC News, Rob, a seasoned sailor with over 30 years of experience, initially planned to take the trip with his wife, Hanne, who is from Norway. However, when she declined, Freya, 19, stepped in, eager to prove that they could endure the journey together.
The father-daughter team faced unexpected challenges, including Rob’s diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer during their voyage. After undergoing surgery in Australia, he quickly returned to continue their adventure. Despite the hardships, they have enjoyed remarkable moments, such as Freya’s birthday celebration at sea and their visit to Madagascar, where they interacted with lemurs.
As their 15-month journey approaches its conclusion, Rob plans to stay in Norway for some time, while Freya aspires to start her career in sailing. The future of ‘Misha’ remains uncertain, as Rob has offered the boat to his children, contemplating whether to continue its legacy or retire from sailing for good.
