A major missing link in Western Sydney’s pedestrian and cyclist network, is a step closer with concept designs for Stages 2 and 3 of the Finlaysons Creek Trail now approved.
The design includes new seating, bike racks, a bike repair station, wayfinding signage and more than 60 new trees planted along the creek corridor alongside new bush restoration.
The project is set to provide a new, direct and accessible link under the Main Western Rail Line, connecting Shannons Paddock to Lytton Park in Wentworthville and complete the missing connection between the M4 Shared Path in the south, the Norwest T-Way Shared Path and Parramatta Park in the north.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the project will create a safe, accessible and well-lit route for pedestrians and cyclists in Western Sydney.
“Finlaysons Creek Trail will close a critical gap in our walking and cycling network, making it easier and safer for people to walk, ride and connect our community in the south to the heart of our City” Cr Zaiter said.
“This is about transforming the Finlaysons Creek corridor into a green oasis that families and visitors can enjoy, and if you work in Westmead or the CBD, the fully lit path will make walking or riding to work a more enjoyable option.
“We’ve worked hard to shape this project and have strengthened the design with the community’s support to add more trees, additional seating, bike facilities and improved wayfinding.”
State Member for Parramatta, Donna Davis MP said: “This NSW Government investment will make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to access the Finlaysons Creek corridor by walking, cycling or scooting.
“We want more people to have the confidence to jump on a bike to get from A to B, so providing bike facilities, better wayfinding, shading and rest areas will help to achieve this.”
Council will now progress detailed design, environmental approvals and technical assessments before construction starts for Stage 1 later this year.
This $14.1 million project is proudly funded by City of Parramatta and the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants and Get NSW Active Program.
