Liverpool City Council has marked a major milestone in the transformation of Austral, with Mayor Ned Mannoun officially cutting the ribbon on the first of 13 new parks and playgrounds set to shape one of Sydney’s fastest-growing suburbs.

Mayor Mannoun said the delivery of new parks is critical to ensuring Austral develops as a vibrant, connected, and liveable community.

“Austral is one of the fastest-growing communities in Australia, and we are delivering the green spaces that families need as this suburb continues to grow,” Mayor Mannoun said. “This first park is just the beginning. Thirteen parks across Austral will help define this community, creating places where residents can relax, play, exercise and come together. We are getting in there and getting the job done.”

The Mayor acknowledged the strong partnership supporting the rollout, particularly the Australian Government’s investment through the Thriving Suburbs Program.

“We are proud to be working in partnership with the Australian Government to deliver essential community infrastructure through the Thriving Suburbs Program,” he said. “This investment is helping us build the kind of infrastructure that keeps pace with growth and strengthens the long-term sustainability of our region.”

Federal Member for Werriwa Anne Stanley said: “I am pleased that the Australian Government has been able to provide the funding for services and infrastructure that the Austral community deserves and badly needs now that Park 22 has opened for the community to use.

“The delivery of Stage One of the park shows how governments working together can make such a difference in Werriwa. It was delightful to see the joy of the children playing on the new facilities.”

Community Invited to Help Name “Park 22”
As construction progresses, Council is inviting the community to help shape the identity of future parks.

“Park 22”, located at 90 Tenth Avenue, is currently seeking a name, with residents encouraged to put forward suggestions.

“We want the community to have a genuine connection to these spaces from day one,” Mayor Mannoun said. “I encourage residents to suggest names that reflect the history and culture of Austral, particularly individuals who have made a meaningful contribution to the area.”

“Park 22” is being delivered in stages: Stage One includes a new children’s playground.  Stage Two will add landscape works, an outdoor gym, pathway networks and a multi-purpose court, and is due for completion by April next year.

Major Works Underway Across Austral

Across Austral, three new parks are currently progressing through major construction at 335 Sixth Avenue, 90 Tenth Avenue and 45 Sixteenth Avenue, with completion scheduled between now and March 2027.

At the same time, Council is upgrading existing community facilities. Scott Memorial Park will receive a new inclusive playground and upgraded sports field floodlighting, due for completion in December 2026, while Craik Park is set for significant improvements including a floodlit sports field, new car park and amenities building.

Looking ahead, eight additional parks are advancing through the design pipeline, with community consultation already completed for sites at Lot 240 Tenth Avenue and Lot 343 Gurner Avenue.

Mayor Mannoun said Council is committed to delivering the infrastructure needed to support Austral’s rapid growth.

“We recognise the pace of development in Austral and the challenges that come with transforming former farmland into a thriving community,” he said. “Council is working closely with Governments and developers to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with growth, while acknowledging that timelines will be influenced by approvals, resourcing, weather and site conditions.”

“These parks represent a major investment in the future of Austral and will play a key role in building a strong, connected and healthy community.”
