According to ABC News, five people have died in separate road crashes across Western Australia in less than 24 hours, as the state’s road toll reached 126 fatalities so far this year.
The first death occurred about 1:10pm on Friday, when a male driver crashed into a tree on George Road in Wuraming, near Boddington in the Peel region. Five minutes later, a 46-year-old man died after his vehicle left Brand Highway and struck a tree in Cape Burney, near Geraldton.
On Friday night, a 30-year-old female passenger in a Toyota Hilux died after a two-vehicle collision at the Mills Road West intersection on Tonkin Highway in Martin, in Perth’s south-east. She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died. The Hilux driver, 33, was seriously injured, while the other driver, 38, was also taken to Royal Perth Hospital.
Police said two people were believed to have died after two vehicles collided head-on near De Witt Road on the North West Coastal Highway at Mount Anketell in Karratha about 5:30am on Saturday. One vehicle caught fire and the driver of the second vehicle was critically injured and taken to hospital. Police have asked witnesses or anyone with video footage of the crashes to contact Crime Stoppers.
The 126 fatalities recorded this year exceed the 121 deaths reported during the same period in 2025 and the 101 recorded in 2024. WA minister Simone McGurk urged motorists to consider fatigue, seatbelts, speed, distraction, alcohol and other drugs. RAC has predicted the state’s annual road toll could exceed 200 deaths.
