The Gayndah Orange Festival, a highlight for the local community, recently showcased the vibrant spirit of small-town Australia. According to ABC News, the festival featured a variety of spirited competitions, including mandarin-eating contests and an orange-throwing competition that attracted numerous participants.

Lisa Millar, a host of the ABC’s Back Roads, attended the festival and shared her experiences of the lively atmosphere. The event, held two hours north of Gympie, highlighted the importance of citrus to the Gayndah community, known for its rich agricultural heritage.

The orange-throwing competition proved to be more challenging than expected for many participants, including Millar, who nearly dislocated her shoulder during the event. Local competitor Andrew triumphed in the men’s division, while Tegan won the women’s competition, showcasing the competitive spirit of the festival.

Such festivals not only provide entertainment but also foster a sense of pride and community among locals. They serve as a reminder of the unique cultural fabric of rural Australia, where communities come together to celebrate their heritage and achievements.
