Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined the Miami Heat from the Milwaukee Bucks. The deal sees Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis move to Miami, with Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis heading in the other direction.
Antetokounmpo, who was drafted by the Bucks in 2013, led the team to an NBA championship in 2021. The 31-year-old had expressed frustration last season regarding management’s decision not to allow him to play following a left knee hyperextension injury. His future was uncertain, with the Boston Celtics also showing interest in the star player. According to BBC News, Heat president Pat Riley described the trade as “one of the great trades” in the franchise’s history, which has won three NBA titles in 2006, 2012, and 2013.
Antetokounmpo had previously voiced concerns about communication within the Bucks organization, stating, “I feel like sometimes people just don’t listen. They listen to the sources. The main source is me. It is what it is.”
In related news, the Philadelphia 76ers confirmed the acquisition of Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. The trade involved sending veteran forward Paul George, along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks to Boston.
