Lebanon has announced that Hezbollah has accepted a US proposal for a mutual cessation of attacks with Israel. The Lebanese embassy in the US confirmed receiving this acceptance, stating that the agreement involves a halt to Israeli strikes on Beirut in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from attacks against Israel. According to BBC News, the ceasefire is intended to cover all Lebanese territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the agreement but cautioned that strikes on Beirut would resume if Hezbollah continues its attacks. He emphasized that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would maintain operations in southern Lebanon as planned. Despite the announced ceasefire, clashes persisted, with Hezbollah reportedly launching attacks on Israeli forces in northern Israel.

Further complicating the situation, Israeli military reports indicated ongoing strikes in southern Lebanon, including a significant explosion in the town of Debbine. This escalation followed a series of rocket and drone attacks attributed to Hezbollah, prompting Israeli airstrikes targeting what they described as “terror targets” in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

US President Donald Trump stated he had engaged in discussions with both Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives, claiming both sides had agreed to halt hostilities. However, he also noted that the US-Iran truce, which has been under pressure, remains fragile. Iran has issued warnings about the implications of Israeli military actions in Lebanon, suggesting that violations could jeopardize broader ceasefire efforts.

As the situation unfolds, fluctuations in global oil prices have been observed, influenced by the ongoing conflict and the potential for further escalations. Brent crude prices surged nearly $5 before stabilizing, reflecting the market’s sensitivity to developments in the region.
