Ian Huntley, the convicted murderer of two schoolgirls, is reportedly close to death after being taken off life support following a violent attack in prison. According to BBC News, the 52-year-old has been hospitalized since 26 February after suffering significant head trauma from a makeshift weapon at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

Huntley was discovered lying in a pool of blood after the incident, which prison sources suggest involved triple killer Anthony Russell, 43. This attack is not an isolated incident, as Huntley has previously faced violence while incarcerated, including an attack in 2010 where he was slashed across the throat and needed 21 stitches.

Huntley is serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of 10-year-old schoolgirls Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells in Soham. The case shocked the nation, as the girls were reported missing after leaving a family barbecue. Their bodies were discovered nearly two weeks later, leading to Huntley’s arrest and subsequent conviction.

The prison where Huntley is located, often referred to as ‘monster mansion’, is known for housing some of the UK’s most dangerous criminals. Huntley’s violent history in prison underscores the extreme dangers present in such facilities, particularly for high-profile inmates.
