Arabic version: الهند تهيمن على باكستان في افتتاح كأس العالم T20
India’s women’s cricket team marked a strong start to their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing 64-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston. Smriti Mandhana’s explosive batting and Deepti Sharma’s exceptional bowling were pivotal in securing the win.
According to BBC News, Mandhana scored 68 runs off 44 balls, showcasing her skill with nine fours and two sixes. Despite being dropped twice during her innings, she helped India post a total of 170-6.
Pakistan initially responded well, reaching 52-1 at the end of the powerplay. However, Deepti Sharma’s remarkable performance turned the tide, as she claimed five wickets for just 10 runs, leading to Pakistan’s collapse. The team was ultimately bowled out for 106 in just 17 overs.
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat first after winning the toss but faced early setbacks, losing two wickets for just 18 runs. Mandhana’s partnership with Kaur, which added 91 runs, was crucial in stabilizing the innings. The lower order then accelerated the scoring, particularly Richa Ghosh, who contributed significantly in the final overs.
With this victory, India joins Australia in setting a strong precedent in Group One, while Pakistan faces challenges ahead as they aim to qualify for the semi-finals. They will need to secure wins against both Australia and South Africa to keep their hopes alive.
