The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed that annual inflation recorded 36 percent in February compared to last year.
CAPMAS attributed this to rising prices in:
- The meat and poultry group by 25 percent
- The cereals and bread group by 14.2 percent
- Fish and seafood by 11.5 percent
- Dairy, cheese and eggs by 12.8 percent
- Oils and fats by 14.1 percent
- Fruits by 7.3 percent
- Vegetables by 9.2 percent
- Sugar and sugary foods by 6.9 percent
- Coffee, tea and cocoa by 11.3 percent
- Tobacco by 8.5 percent
- Ready-made clothing by 4.4 percent
- Shoes by 3.2 percent
- Water and miscellaneous services related to housing by 10.7 percent
- Furniture, fixtures, carpets and other floor coverings by 8.6 percent
- Household appliances by 7.4 percent, medical products, devices and equipment by 17.3 percent
- Vehicle purchases by 4.8 percent, cultural and entertainment services by 9.8 percent
- Newspapers, books and stationery by 55.3 percent
- The pre-primary and basic education group by 10.2 percent
- The general and technical secondary education group by 6.5 percent, the post-secondary and technical education group by 6.9 percent
- The higher education group by 32.5 percent
- The ready-made meals group by 11.8 percent
- Hotel services by 9.8 percent
CAPMAS explained that the monthly inflation rate for Egypt reached 11 percent for February, compared to 1.7 percent for January.
The report monitored a number of changes at the monthly level, including other food products by 34.0 percent, and mineral and carbonated water and natural juices group by 6.4 percent.
The healthcare division also recorded an increase of 11.3 percent, due to an increase in the prices of the products group, medical devices and equipment by 17.3 percent, the outpatient services group by 4.2 percent, and hospital services by 4.3 percent.
