Arabic version: إيران تؤكد الدبلوماسية مع التحذير من العمل العسكري الأمريكي
With a new round of talks scheduled in Geneva, Iran has expressed its readiness to engage in diplomatic discussions with the United States regarding its nuclear program. However, the Iranian government has made it clear that it will defend itself if the US opts for military action.
According to Al Jazeera, Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that any US attack, including limited strikes, would be considered an “act of aggression” and would elicit a robust response from Tehran. This warning follows US President Donald Trump’s indication that he is contemplating a limited strike if a deal is not reached.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian conveyed optimism regarding the upcoming nuclear negotiations, highlighting that recent talks had yielded “encouraging signals.” Nevertheless, he emphasized that Iran is prepared for any potential scenario as discussions resume.
The two nations recently completed a second round of indirect talks in Switzerland, facilitated by Oman. A third round is set for Thursday in Geneva, although the US has yet to confirm its participation. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is leading the discussions for Iran, while the US delegation includes envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.
Baghaei dismissed any claims regarding a temporary agreement with the US, asserting that speculation surrounding the negotiations is common but unfounded. He reiterated that Iranians had never capitulated at any point in their history and called for goodwill from both sides to achieve a successful negotiation outcome.
