Arabic version: إيران تحيي ذكرى رئيس الدفاع المؤثر علي شمخاني

Iran has held a funeral for Ali Shamkhani, the country’s most influential defence figure, who was killed in Israeli-US strikes on February 28. Shamkhani was a key figure in the Iran nuclear talks and served as the chief of the Defence Council. He was also an advisor to the late Supreme Leader.

According to Al Jazeera, Shamkhani had previously survived an Israeli assassination attempt last June, which resulted in the loss of a leg. His death marks a significant moment in Iran’s military and political landscape, given his prominence in shaping the country’s defence strategies.

The funeral procession drew attention as it highlighted Shamkhani’s importance in both military and diplomatic spheres. His role in the nuclear negotiations with world powers positioned him as a key player in Iran’s foreign policy.

Shamkhani’s legacy is expected to influence Iran’s future defence and diplomatic initiatives, particularly in the context of its ongoing tensions with Israel and the United States.
