Arabic version: إيران تقيم اقتراح وقف إطلاق النار الأمريكي وسط اشتباكات بحرية مستمرة
Iran is currently reviewing a United States peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing war, even as exchanges of fire occurred in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. US President Donald Trump criticized Iran’s leadership on his Truth Social platform, warning of increased military action if Tehran does not agree to the deal swiftly. According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s formal response to the proposal has yet to be issued, although Iranian officials have expressed skepticism about the US demands.
The US proposal includes a 14-point document that requires Iran to cease its nuclear weapon development and halt uranium enrichment for at least 12 years. In exchange, the US would gradually lift sanctions and release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets. Both sides would also need to reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz within 30 days of signing the agreement.
Iranian lawmakers have criticized the US proposal, with Ebrahim Rezaei calling it more of an American wish-list than a realistic plan. Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, dismissed reports suggesting that the two nations were close to an agreement, indicating a significant gap in the positions of both parties.
Despite the tensions and military confrontations, diplomatic efforts appear to be ongoing. Reports indicate that an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed the proposal is still under review. Analysts suggest that Iran may need to adjust its stance on its nuclear program, although Iranian officials maintain that the current negotiations focus on ending the war rather than nuclear issues. The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate the complexities of their respective demands.
