Arabic version: إسرائيل تصدر أوامر تهجير لـ 29 بلدة في جنوب لبنان
The Israeli military has accused Hezbollah of launching three projectiles towards northern Israel in what it described as a blatant ceasefire violation. This accusation comes shortly after Israel issued forced displacement orders for residents of more than two dozen towns in southern Lebanon. According to Al Jazeera, the military’s actions are part of its response to Hezbollah missiles and drones.
The displacement orders, announced on Sunday, cover 29 locations – 25 in the Nabatieh district and four in the Sidon district – and include towns such as Jbaa, Houmin al-Tahta, and Kfar Sir. Residents in these communities have been instructed to flee north of the Zahrani River immediately. Shortly after the announcement, Israeli air strikes targeted the town of Froun in the Bint Jbeil district.
Heidi Pett, reporting from Beirut, noted that Nabatieh, once a thriving city, is now home to one of the few functioning hospitals in southern Lebanon and has faced extensive destruction from Israeli air strikes in recent weeks. There is widespread anxiety in Lebanon regarding the implications of a potential Iran-US deal, especially following a temporary ceasefire announced in April, which resulted in significant casualties.
Israeli officials are calling for increased military action against Hezbollah. Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir repeated calls on Sunday for more Israeli attacks on Hezbollah, advocating for retaliatory measures, suggesting a missile should be launched for every drone sent by Hezbollah. Additionally, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich urged for attacks on Hezbollah strongholds in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut, emphasizing the need for decisive action to ensure security for northern residents.
