According to BBC News,

Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 17 people, Lebanese media say. The National News Agency (NNA) reported that nine individuals lost their lives in a series of strikes in the town of Tayr Debba, while additional casualties were reported in nearby areas.

The strikes occurred despite warnings from Iran, which has been closely monitoring the situation. On Tuesday, 11 people were reportedly killed as Israel intensified its military operations against Hezbollah. The Iranian-backed group has claimed responsibility for launching attacks on Israeli troops stationed in southern Lebanon.

NNA detailed that the Israeli air and artillery strikes intensified on Wednesday, targeting multiple cities, towns, and villages. In Tayr Debba, at least four strikes were conducted by Israeli jets and drones, resulting in nine fatalities. Two additional strikes in the village of Deir Qanoun el-Nahr killed three more individuals, while two were killed in Seddiqin. An explosion was also reported in the center of Sidon, where a car was targeted by an Israeli drone, leading to two deaths.

The Israeli military has not commented on the Wednesday strikes but previously stated that it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure sites and military assets. Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced that its fighters retaliated by targeting Israeli troop gatherings with rocket fire.

In response to the escalating conflict, UN human rights chief Volker Türk announced the deployment of a team of human rights investigators to Lebanon to assess potential violations by all parties involved since the conflict’s escalation in March. This team is expected to present its findings by the end of July. The ongoing violence has left nearly one million people displaced in Lebanon, with significant humanitarian needs reported by the UN.
