Kimi Antonelli took his second win in succession and the lead of the world championship at just 19 years old. The Italian driver benefited from a safety car period that allowed him to pit while his competitors had already done so, ultimately enabling him to maintain his lead.

According to BBC News, Antonelli’s win came after a heavy crash involving Oliver Bearman, which brought out the safety car on lap 22. Prior to the incident, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri had been leading the race, with Mercedes’ George Russell trailing closely behind.

Bearman lost control of his Haas while contesting for position, crashing at 191 mph and incurring a significant impact. He was taken to the medical center but was later released after examinations. This crash altered the dynamics of the race, allowing Antonelli to capitalize on the situation and move to the front.

Piastri finished in second place, marking McLaren’s first podium of the season after a challenging start. Russell, who had been competitive throughout the race, ended up in fourth after facing issues with his car’s energy management during the restart.

The race concluded with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc securing third place after a series of overtakes, including a notable maneuver against Russell. The results leave Russell reflecting on his performance as the teams prepare for a five-week break before the Miami Grand Prix.
