The spirit of competition, unity, and multicultural celebration reached its peak on Sunday, 22 February 2026, as Padstow Park came alive for the electrifying Grand Final of the ALFA Challenge Cup.
A Final Worthy of the Occasion
In a clash defined by intensity, discipline, and pride, Nigeria and the Republic of Korea entered the pitch at full strength, each driven by the pursuit of honour and championship glory. From the opening whistle, the match unfolded as a relentless battle — every pass carried purpose, every attack threatened, and every defensive move became a moment of survival.
The tension remained unbroken through full time, with neither side willing to surrender ground. It was a match where resilience and nerves of steel mattered just as much as skill.
The ultimate decision came down to penalty shootouts — football’s purest test of composure.
Korea struck first.

Nigeria faltered with a missed opening kick.
Both teams converted their second, third, and fourth penalties, keeping the contest alive. Then came the defining moment.
With the final shot resting on his shoulders, Korea’s number 10, Gyeonghak Kim, stepped forward.
Calm. Focused. Unshaken.
He delivered.
The ball found the net, and with it came an eruption of celebration as Kim sprinted in triumph, chased by jubilant teammates. Korea had secured the ALFA Challenge Cup 2026 title in unforgettable fashion.
In a fitting display of sportsmanship, both teams exchanged handshakes and congratulations — a testament to the tournament’s true spirit.

A Ceremony of Recognition and Community
The closing ceremony commenced immediately after the final whistle, marking not just the end of a match, but the culmination of five weeks of exceptional football.
The evening began with an acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land — the Tharawal and Darug peoples — setting a respectful tone for the celebration.
Distinguished guests in attendance included:
- Mrs. Kylie Wilkinson, State Member for East Hills
- Deputy Mayor Clr Rachelle Harika and Clr David Walsch from Canterbury Bankstown Council
- Dr. Abraham Constantin, World President of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, represented by Mr. Badwi El Hage
- Community leaders, business representatives, and media figures
The ceremony was led by Mr. Remy Wehbe, President of the Australian Lebanese Football Association, who congratulated both finalists for their inspiring performances and thanked the passionate crowd whose support brought the tournament to life.
Honouring the Game and Those Behind It
Recognition began with the Grand Final referees — Rodrigo, Louis, and Steveo — whose professionalism ensured a fair and well-managed contest.

Sponsors and partners who made the tournament possible were acknowledged:
- Bankstown RSL Club
- City of Canterbury Bankstown Council
- Mydas Construction
- Mydas Golf Club
- Chullora Wolves Soccer Club
- Potts Park Greyhound
- Oz Arab Media
In recognition of the vital support provided by Bankstown RSL Club, it was noted during the ceremony that CEO Mr. Scott Dickson was unable to attend the Grand Final in person. A few days later, in a gesture reflecting the strong partnership behind the tournament’s success, Mr. Remy Wehbe personally visited Mr. Dickson at his office to present him with the appreciation award on behalf of the Australian Lebanese Football Association, thanking him for Bankstown RSL’s valued contribution to the ALFA Challenge Cup 2026.

Each contribution reflected the strong collaboration between sporting organisations, businesses, and community leaders.
Individual Excellence Recognised
The night celebrated outstanding performances across the tournament:
- Player of the Year: Marvis Oyanogh (Nigeria)
- Best Goalkeeper: Ziad Tarchihi (Palestine)
- Top Scorer: Abdulla Adra (Lebanon)
- Man of the Grand Final: Gyeonghak Kim (Republic of Korea)
- Best Fair Play Team: Republic of Korea

Silver and Gold Moments
Nigeria’s captain was invited forward to receive the Runner-Up Trophy and silver medals, met with strong applause from attendees in recognition of their remarkable campaign.
Then came the champions.
One by one, Korea’s players were called forward to receive their gold medals — laughing, embracing, and sharing the joy of a hard-earned victory.
Finally, in the moment everyone awaited, the Korean captain stepped forward to lift the ALFA Challenge Cup 2026.
He paused for the official photo alongside dignitaries.

More Than a Tournament
Over five weeks, the ALFA Challenge Cup brought together athletes from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nations — not just to compete, but to connect.
As the final photos were taken with guests and loved ones, one message resonated clearly:
While only one team lifts the trophy, every participant becomes a champion of something greater — community, inclusion, and shared humanity.
And with that, ALFA 2026 closed — leaving behind memories of football, friendship, and the powerful reminder that sport continues to unite us all.
