A Minns Labor Government will fund Grace’s Place so it can provide 24-hour support for children and young adults who have lost a loved one in a homicide.

The world’s first trauma centre for children, Grace’s Place was officially opened today on the anniversary of Anita Cobby’s death.

The Centre is named after Grace Lynch, the mother of Anita Cobby and founding Member of the Homicide Victims Support Group which runs the facility.

Grace’s Place helps children, teenagers and their families who are grieving the death of a loved one through homicide. They share their experiences, receive counselling, and take part in therapeutic programs that teach them how to survive the trauma they have experienced.

The funding of $1.25 million a year will allow Grace’s Place to accommodate up to 12 children and their careers at the centre.

While all three levels of Government assisted in the construction, the HSVG have no funding commitment to operate the centre when it opens.

Quotes attributable to Chris Minns, NSW Labor Leader:

“Grace’s Place is a safe and welcoming place where up to 12 children and their carers can stay, receiving care, counselling and healing.

“It is both special and unique. It will provide enormous support to vulnerable children experiencing trauma, and respite to parents who often need to be away from their children to attend court.

“Grace’s Place is a fitting to tribute to life of Grace Lynch, the mother of Anita Cobby, who together with her husband Gary, founded the Homicide Victims Support Group.”
