A Minns Labor Government will increase funding for the NSW Council of Social Services (NCOSS) with an additional $1.3 million per year on a permanent basis.

This will be on top of NCOSS’s existing core funding of $1.2 million a year – which it receives from NSW Health and the Department of Communities & Justice.

This brings NCOSS’s total annual funding to $2.5 million per year.

NSW Labor’s announcement comes after the Liberals refused to commit to the extra funding which is required to ensure NCOSS can continue to operate as a strong and well-resourced peak body.

NCOSS fulfills critical advisory, research, and policy roles while providing support to, and coordination of the broader social services sector in NSW. and acting as a link between it and government.

The work NCOSS does is as valuable as ever, as New South Wales faces natural disasters, a cost of living crisis and a lack of affordable housing.

Quotes attributable to Chris Minns, NSW Labor Leader:

“NSW is committed to supporting our community sector and the invaluable work that they do each and every day across our state.”

“The work that NCOSS does is vital to provide a voice to those in New South Wales experiencing disadvantage and poverty.”

Quotes attributable to Kate Washington, NSW Shadow Minister for Family and Community Services:

“Unlike the Liberals, NSW Labor will always support our community sector and we’re proud to back NCOSS who are leaders in their field.”

“NCOSS has been at the forefront of advocating for real change in fighting poverty for close to 90 years. NSW Labor is proud to support them in continuing this important work.”
