According to ABC News, Brisbane erased a 17-point deficit in the final four minutes to defeat Fremantle 14.12 (96) to 12.17 (89) in the AFL grand final at the MCG. The Lions’ victory, watched by 100,023 spectators, delivered the club its third consecutive premiership.

Fremantle forward Patrick Voss kicked his third goal with 4:18 remaining, before the Dockers’ “Wharfie Time” bell rang. Brisbane responded with four straight goals: Charlie Cameron and Zac Bailey narrowed the margin before Logan Morris put the Lions ahead from a 40-metre set shot with just over a minute left. Morris added another goal with 12 seconds remaining, completing all three of his majors in the final quarter.

The result gave Brisbane its second three-peat, following the Leigh Matthews-led teams that won flags from 2001 to 2003. Fremantle, playing in its second grand final in 31 years, was denied after also losing its only previous decider in 2013 against Hawthorn.

Shai Bolton won the Norm Smith Medal for Fremantle, becoming the first player from a losing side to receive the honour since Chris Judd in 2005. The rain-affected match featured an apparent right Achilles injury to Dockers captain Alex Pearce, who collapsed while chasing the ball during the third quarter.

Brisbane trailed by 10 points at the final change after Hayden Young kicked two third-quarter goals for Fremantle. Earlier, the Dockers had gained momentum through Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss and Voss, while Brisbane received scoring contributions from Cameron, Kai Lohmann, Oscar Allen, Conor McKenna and Sam Draper.
