Arabic version: رحلة مايا شوالينسكا إلى نهائي بطولة فرنسا المفتوحة تلهم المعجبين
Surprising many, Maja Chwalinska has reached the final of the French Open, marking a significant milestone in her tennis career. The 24-year-old qualifier, who previously struggled with mental health issues, now stands just one victory away from making history as the first qualifier to win the tournament in the Open era. According to BBC News, Chwalinska’s path to the final has been both challenging and inspiring.
Chwalinska’s journey began five years ago when she took an indefinite break from tennis due to depression. After losing in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon, she sought help and focused on her recovery through running and boxing. This dedication paid off, as she returned to tennis and has since worked her way up the ranks of the WTA Tour.
This year at Roland Garros, Chwalinska has captivated audiences with her dynamic playing style, defeating notable opponents including former French Open semi-finalist Maria Sakkari and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen. With her recent semi-final win over Diana Shnaider, Chwalinska has now won nine consecutive matches at the tournament.
In a personal touch, Chwalinska recently got a tattoo reading ‘free’ on her left hand, symbolizing her newfound sense of liberation and joy in playing the sport she loves. She has expressed that the tattoo holds significant meaning for her, although she has chosen to keep its deeper significance private.
With the support of thousands of Polish fans, Chwalinska is set to face Russian eighth seed Mirra Andreeva in the final. If she secures the win, she will join fellow Polish player Iga Swiatek in the annals of French Open history, further solidifying her place in the sport.
