On Monday, September 16, the Maltese community and Australian dignitaries gathered at the Mandavilla Function Centre in Horsley Park to commemorate Malta’s 60th Independence Day. The event was marked by a deep sense of pride and reflection on Malta’s rich history, as well as the substantial contributions of the Maltese diaspora to Australian society.
The celebration was graced by a number of prominent figures, including the Consul General of Malta, Lawrence Buhagiar, the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley, and the Premier of NSW, the Hon. Chris Minns. Among the key political attendees was Mark Buttigieg, who serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Industrial Relations, Work Health and Safety, and Multiculturalism in the New South Wales Government. Also present were Mark Coure, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the NSW Parliament, Kylie Wilkinson – State Member for East Hills, Julia Finn – State Member for Granville, and Hugh McDermott – State Member for Prospect, each representing their respective communities and roles in government.
