Arabic version: مانشستر يونايتد يؤكد مغادرة كاسيميرو في نهاية الموسم
Manchester United have no plans to reverse their decision to release veteran midfielder Casemiro at the end of the season. The 34-year-old Brazilian announced in January that he would leave the club when his £350,000-a-week contract expires. Despite his strong performances this season, United concluded they would not offer a new deal to the former Real Madrid midfielder, who will be available on a free transfer.
According to BBC News, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed incredulity about Casemiro’s £18.2 million annual salary and has vowed to drive down costs. This financial strategy is believed to have influenced the club’s decision not to trigger an option on Casemiro’s contract, allowing for a more extensive squad overhaul.
Casemiro asked for the news to be made public in order to avoid any confusion towards the end of the season. His strong performances have continued, including a goal against Aston Villa, bringing his total to seven for the season, six of which have been headers.
Fans have shown their support, chanting “One more year, Casemiro” during the match, while team captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Leny Yoro expressed hopes for him to stay. However, sources indicate that the club will not reconsider their stance on his future. Interim head coach Michael Carrick confirmed that the decision is final, emphasizing the clarity it brings to the situation.
