A teacher from Kingswood Primary School in Melbourne has been charged with producing and possessing child abuse material following the discovery of a camera in a school bathroom. According to ABC News, the incident occurred during a routine maintenance check on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of the 33-year-old teacher, Timothy Blamires.

Victoria Police reported that the camera was located at the primary school in Dingley Village, and Blamires was arrested shortly thereafter. He faces multiple charges, including one count each of producing and possessing child abuse material. Following the incident, Kingswood Primary School principal Aaron Cox communicated with parents, expressing his devastation over the situation.

In his message, Cox reassured parents that there is no indication that any child has been physically harmed. An independent expert security agency conducted a sweep of the school and found no additional devices. The Department of Education is also involved, reaching out to affected families and staff and providing immediate support.

Blamires appeared in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and has been remanded in custody. The matter will return to court on Friday, as the school community grapples with the unsettling news.
