The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of South Sudan, Hon. Mary Nawai Martin, met with Ms. Yayoi Segi-Vltchek, UNESCO Country Representative to South Sudan, at her office to discuss strengthening collaboration in youth development and sports promotion. Ms. Segi-Vltchek was accompanied by Hon. Awut Mayom Agok, former Minister of General Education and Instruction for Warrap State and current Interim Secretary-General of the UNESCO–South Sudan National Commission.
Hon. Nawai expressed her deep appreciation to UNESCO for its steadfast support toward youth empowerment through education, capacity building, and peacebuilding programs. She commended UNESCO’s vital contribution to establishing the National Compliance Platform – South Sudan for Anti-Doping in Sports, describing it as a milestone in promoting integrity, fairness, and accountability within the country’s sporting community.
The Minister also briefed the delegation on the Government’s progress in advancing the Anti-Doping in Sports Bill, which will soon be presented to the National Legislative Assembly. She emphasised that the proposed legislation reflects South Sudan’s firm commitment to clean and transparent sporting practices aligned with international standards.
In her remarks, Ms. Segi-Vltchek reaffirmed UNESCO’s continued partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Government of South Sudan. She highlighted UNESCO’s dedication to empowering young people, strengthening sports governance, and advancing education and peacebuilding initiatives to foster unity and sustainable development across the nation.
