Arabic version: اندلعت احتجاجات على مستوى البلاد ضد سياسات وأفعال ترامب
Large protests against the Trump administration unfolded across the United States, marking the third iteration of the No Kings rallies, which have previously attracted millions. Organisers are voicing opposition to various policies, including the war in Iran, federal immigration enforcement, and the rising cost of living. According to BBC News, demonstrators contend that Trump’s approach resembles tyranny, asserting that power should reside with the people rather than “wannabe kings.”
Demonstrations occurred in nearly every major city, with significant gatherings in Washington DC, New York, and Los Angeles. In Washington, protesters filled the National Mall and gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, holding effigies of Trump and other officials while calling for their ousting. Notably, a major rally took place in Minnesota, where the deaths of two American citizens – Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti – at the hands of federal immigration agents in January sparked outrage.
In New York City, thousands marched through Times Square, leading to street closures to accommodate the crowds. Reports indicate that the last No Kings rally in October drew nearly seven million participants nationwide. However, the protests were not without conflict; in Los Angeles, two individuals were arrested for assaulting federal law enforcement, and multiple arrests occurred when protesters ignored dispersal orders.
Despite the tensions, organisers insisted that the events were peaceful. The protests also extended internationally, with American expats gathering in cities like Paris and London to express their dissent against Trump, labeling him a “fascist” and demanding his impeachment. As the rallies continue, more demonstrations are expected in various cities throughout the day.
