Arabic version: أمين عام الناتو يرفض مزاعم روسيا حول دعم الطائرات بدون طيار في دول البلطيق
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has dismissed recent Russian claims that Latvia and other Baltic nations are planning to assist Ukraine in launching drone attacks against Russia. Rutte described the assertions as ‘totally ridiculous’ and emphasized that Russia knows it.
According to The Guardian, Rutte’s comments came during a press briefing where he addressed escalating rhetoric and threats from Moscow towards the Baltic states. Both Latvia and Ukraine have previously dismissed these claims as lies.
Rutte reiterated that Russia poses a direct threat to Euro-Atlantic security and stressed the need for NATO allies to take more responsibility for their own defense. He noted that the dependency on a single ally for security is not sustainable in the long term.
In related news, Lithuania has lifted a recent drone alert, but investigations are ongoing regarding the origin of a military drone that crashed or potentially left the country. Rutte’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions in the region and the importance of unity among NATO members in the face of Russian aggression.
