Arabic version: زيارة نتنياهو السرية إلى الإمارات تعكس تحولًا في الديناميات الإقليمية
According to BBC News,
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the war with Iran, a move confirmed by his office. This meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has been described as a “historic breakthrough” in relations between the two nations, as tensions in the region escalate.
The meeting took place in Al-Ain, an oasis city near the border with Oman, and lasted several hours. The visit comes at a time when Iran has launched multiple attacks on the UAE, including missiles and drones, prompting the UAE to bolster its defense capabilities.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated that Israeli Iron Dome air defense systems were sent to the UAE during the conflict, highlighting the strengthening military ties between Israel and the UAE. This deployment is seen as a result of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
Emirati presidential adviser Anwar Gargash emphasized the UAE’s commitment to political solutions and diplomacy, while also affirming the country’s right to self-defense. He noted that the UAE had not sought the war but had engaged in defensive actions against Iranian aggression.
The ongoing conflict has also led to significant military actions from both sides, with reports indicating that the UAE has conducted strikes against Iranian targets, including a refinery on Lavan Island. As the situation remains fluid, the region continues to face challenges, including a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, which has implications for global oil prices.
