Arabic version: نشطاء فلسطين أكشن يستعدون لإعادة المحاكمة بشأن حادثة أنظمة إلبت
Six activists from Palestine Action will undergo a retrial concerning allegations of criminal damage and violence linked to a break-in at an Elbit Systems facility near Bristol. The group includes Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio, Fatema Rajwani, Zoe Rogers, and Jordan Devlin, who are facing these charges following a previous trial.
According to BBC News, the activists were cleared of aggravated burglary earlier this month. However, the jury was unable to reach a decision on the charges of criminal damage against all defendants, as well as allegations of violent disorder against Head, Corner, and Kamio, necessitating the retrial.
Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC announced that the aggravated burglary charges against 18 other individuals involved in the break-in would be dropped. This means that the focus will solely be on the six activists who are set to face the retrial for the unresolved charges from the previous trial.
The retrial will address all charges that did not conclude with a verdict during the initial proceedings, which wrapped up on February 4. The legal developments surrounding this case highlight ongoing tensions and activism related to defense firms operating in the UK.
As the retrial approaches, the outcome could have significant implications for the activists involved and for broader discussions about protest actions against defense companies. The case continues to draw attention in Bristol and beyond, as supporters and critics alike await the next steps in the legal process.
