Parramatta has entered the next era of waste reduction with Council adopting a 10-year vision to lead the way in sustainable waste management through collaboration with community and innovative, resourceful and cost-effective solutions for a cleaner future.
City of Parramatta’s 2026-2036 Waste Strategy will guide how Council delivers sustainable, resilient and community-focused waste services, while helping residents and businesses reduce the amount of waste they generate.
The Strategy includes investigating opportunities to expand the Community Recycling Centre and its service offerings, building on the success of the City’s facility in North Parramatta.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the strategy responds to one of the biggest challenges facing councils across Australia.
“We are changing the way Parramatta thinks about waste – from something we throw away to a resource we can potentially use again,” Cr Zaiter said.
“As a Council, we are committed to finding innovative ways to convert waste from landfill and this strategy puts us firmly on the path to becoming a leader in the circular economy.
“This is a turning point for how we manage waste in our City, but we cannot do this alone. Reducing waste is a shared responsibility, and every household and business has a role to play.”
The Strategy also places a strong focus on education, helping the community make better choices to reduce waste at home and at work.
