Cillian Murphy joined a star-studded cast at the premiere of the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, held in Birmingham. Hundreds of fans, many dressed in flat caps and tweed, gathered at the city’s Symphony Hall to catch a glimpse of the actors, including Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth. According to BBC News, the film picks up from Steven Knight’s acclaimed, Birmingham-set TV series, with Oscar winner Murphy reprising his role as gang leader Tommy Shelby who is depicted returning to the city during World War Two.
The film’s creator, Steven Knight, emphasized the significance of hosting the premiere in Birmingham, a location critical to the show’s identity. Murphy echoed this sentiment, stating, “it’s important for the fans, it’s important for [Steven Knight].” He highlighted the city’s deep connection to the narrative and its importance to the show’s success.
Local celebrities, including members of the band Duran Duran and players from Birmingham City, attended the glitzy event. Fans traveled from afar, with some expressing hopes of opening a Peaky Blinders-themed café. Attendees embraced the occasion, dressing in costumes and celebrating the cultural impact of the series on Birmingham.
Ahead of the premiere, Transport for West Midlands launched a specially-designed Metro tram featuring the phrase “Home of the Peaky Blinders.” In addition, a mechanical bull in the city was adorned with a flat cap, showcasing the local enthusiasm for the franchise. The film, set for release in cinemas on Friday for two weeks, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting March 20. The Peaky Blinders legacy continues, with plans for a new TV series following the Shelby family after the war.
