Arabic version: الشرطة تحقق مع أندرو ماونتباتن-ويندسور بتهمة سوء السلوك في المنصب
Police searches at Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former home of Royal Lodge are continuing on Friday, after he was released under investigation on Thursday evening. The former prince was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and taken to a Norfolk police station for questioning. He has consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing. According to BBC News, Andrew was released under investigation, meaning he faces no restrictions and does not have to follow any conditions such as curfews or travel bans.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that searches were being conducted at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk, including the Sandringham Estate where Andrew was arrested. The police indicated that their investigations are focused on allegations regarding the sharing of confidential material with the late Jeffrey Epstein. This marks the first time Andrew has been arrested, despite prior allegations surrounding his association with Epstein.
The police’s decision to arrest Andrew allows them to access various forms of evidence, including computer equipment and files. The investigation into his conduct may take weeks before a decision is made regarding potential charges. Andrew was reportedly not informed in advance of his arrest by the police, nor was Buckingham Palace.
King Charles has publicly stated that “the law must take its course” in response to his brother’s arrest. He expressed concern over the allegations and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by the appropriate authorities. As the investigation continues, it remains unclear what specific actions led to the misconduct allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
