Today Premier Dominic Perrottet and Education Minister Sarah Mitchell saw firsthand the impact of overcrowding at Jordan Springs Public School, but has still refused to build a high school for the community.

Jordan Springs is a new residential estate in Western Sydney, home to 13,000 residents and 4,800 homes.

Despite Education Minister Mitchell stating this morning “we know that this is a high growth area,” the NSW Government has failed to build a high school in Jordan Springs to meet this growth.

Jordan Springs Public School opened in Term 3, 2020 after a long community campaign to build the school.

The school was overcapacity within one year of being opened. It’s now more than 300 students overcapacity, with 941 enrolments but capacity for only 625.

14 demountables now fill the primary school playground, with no plans for a high school for the more than 900 students in Jordan Springs to attend.

The NSW Government has also failed to deliver promised high schools to growing communities in Marsden Park, Rydalmere, Macquarie Park and Edmondson Park.

Comments from Deputy NSW Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for Education Prue Car:

“Despite overcrowding at Western Sydney schools, Dominic Perrottet refuses to build the new schools and upgrades growing communities need.

“As Treasurer he failed to fund a high school in Jordan Springs five times, and now as Premier he’s refusing again.

“The NSW Government continues to repeat their infrastructure mistakes which will leave thousands of residents across Western Sydney without schools.”
