President Salva Kiir on Wednesday held talks with Michael J. Adler, focusing on the fragile peace process and the worsening humanitarian situation as fighting continues in parts of the country.
Ambassador Adler urged South Sudanese leaders to take concrete steps to preserve peace, warning that the ongoing violence threatens hard-won gains. He said Washington remains deeply concerned about the security situation and stressed that dialogue is the only viable path to safeguarding stability in the young nation.
The US envoy also highlighted mounting challenges faced by humanitarian organisations, particularly in delivering food and life-saving assistance to affected communities. He emphasised the need to guarantee the safety and freedom of movement of aid workers so relief operations can reach those most in need.
Ambassador Adler reiterated the United States’ call to fully resume humanitarian activities in Western Bahr el Ghazal, noting persistent obstacles that continue to hamper relief efforts. He referenced a 11 December 2025 statement by the United States Department of State Bureau of African Affairs, which urged the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity to ease excessive taxation and administrative burdens on both national and international aid organisations assisting vulnerable populations.
