Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on newly appointed government and security officials to work collaboratively and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, following a swearing-in ceremony held on Thursday at the State House.
During the ceremony, a new group of senior officials formally assumed office, with the President emphasising the importance of commitment, discipline, and integrity in public service.
Among those sworn in were Dr James Pitia Morgan as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila as Minister of Trade and Industry, and Atong Kuol Manyang as Minister of Youth and Sports. Each minister took an oath pledging loyalty to the Republic of South Sudan and a commitment to serve diligently while promoting the nation’s development and the welfare of its people.
Justin Monyping Ater was also sworn in as Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, affirming his dedication to carrying out his responsibilities with integrity and in accordance with the law.
In the security sector, General Akec Tong Aleu assumed the role of Director General of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) under the National Security Service, while Lieutenant General Napoleon Adok Gai was appointed Deputy Director General for Finance and Administration within the same body. Both officials pledged to uphold the Transitional Constitution, respect the rule of law and human dignity, and safeguard the national interest.
Addressing the appointees, President Kiir underscored the need for effective service delivery and strict adherence to legal frameworks. He placed particular emphasis on professionalism, discipline, and accountability within the security sector.
The President also highlighted the importance of coordination across institutions, noting that strong cooperation among agencies is critical to maintaining national stability and improving outcomes for the people of South Sudan.
