The Queensland government has announced its Gold Coast Transport Plan, unveiling metro-style buses as the best service option to connect southern suburbs. According to ABC News, this plan aims to improve connectivity between southern suburbs, although specific costs and routes are still under consideration.

Dubbed the “Gold Coast Surfer,” the metro buses will ferry passengers from Coolangatta to Burleigh Heads and west to Robina. Premier David Crisafulli emphasized that this initiative reflects community feedback and is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure in the growing region.

The proposed bus services are set to operate every 10 minutes, providing a reliable alternative for residents and visitors. Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg highlighted the potential impact of these services, stating they could significantly reduce reliance on cars in an area often plagued by traffic congestion.

While the government has not released specific costs for the new bus service, it previously cited the estimated $10 billion price tag for the axed light rail project as a factor in its decision. The announcement comes as part of a larger commitment to invest a record $55.9 billion into the Transport and Main Roads budget to deliver better roads and rail for all Queenslanders.
