Parts of Queensland’s southern and central coastal regions, including Yeppoon, are expected to enjoy sunny weather as the school holidays conclude. However, showers are anticipated in the northern areas this weekend. According to ABC News, the southern half of the state will see mostly sunny weather until Sunday, when a risk of coastal showers arrives.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecasts that the storm risk will likely move from the interior to the far north over the weekend. While southern Queensland will bask in warmer temperatures and sunshine, the central interior and north-west may face localised heavy rainfall, with some areas expecting between 50 and 100 millimetres on Friday.

Julia Creek, located approximately 650 kilometres west of Townsville, recorded significant rainfall, with about 115 millimetres falling recently, including a remarkable 76 millimetres in just one hour. This heavy rain was attributed to a low-pressure system linked to the remnants of ex-Tropical Cyclone Maila.

As conditions are expected to ease over the weekend, storm activity may persist into next week in a more isolated form. In the south, dry and warm conditions will linger until Sunday when a chance of some coastal showers is likely to develop, along with increased swells along the coast, reaching up to 2.5 metres offshore on the Gold Coast.

Temperatures in Brisbane and the south-east corner are forecasted to remain in the low 30s and high 20s over the weekend, with a cooling trend expected mid-week. Additionally, smoke haze from hazard reduction burns may linger into Saturday, affecting air quality in some regions.
