Contestants from *Married at First Sight Australia* have expressed serious concerns regarding their safety after discovering that their partners had undisclosed criminal histories. According to BBC News, former cast members reported feeling unsafe and unprotected due to the lack of transparency about their on-screen partners’ past convictions.

A former contestant revealed she was unaware that her match had a previous drug conviction until after the show concluded. “There should be informed consent,” she stated, highlighting the need for participants to be aware of their partners’ backgrounds. Another groom had a past conviction for affray, which was also not disclosed to his on-screen bride.

Nine former contestants have called for improved background checks and a ban on individuals with prior convictions from participating in the show. Channel 9 and Endemol Shine Australia, the production companies behind *MAFS Australia*, claimed to have strong protocols in place for participant safety, but did not confirm whether they informed contestants about their partners’ pasts.

The show, which has gained popularity in both Australia and the UK, has faced scrutiny following allegations of misconduct in the British version. Participants are paired with strangers for mock weddings, but the revelations about hidden criminal records have raised questions about the safety measures in place for cast members. Current and former contestants are demanding accountability and better protection as they navigate their experiences on the show.
