Arabic version: ريبل ويلسون تنفي مزاعم التنمر في قضية تشهير
Rebel Wilson has labeled allegations of her bullying women on the set of her film as “absolute nonsense” during her testimony in a defamation trial in Sydney. The actress is being sued by Australian actress Charlotte MacInnes, who claims Wilson damaged her reputation through a series of Instagram posts in 2024 and 2025.
According to BBC News, MacInnes alleges that Wilson called her a liar after she purportedly complained about sexual harassment by producer Amanda Ghost, a claim MacInnes firmly denies. The courtroom was filled with journalists and supporters as Wilson answered questions about her self-image as a “champion of women,” to which she affirmed positively.
The tense atmosphere escalated during cross-examination by MacInnes’s lawyer, Sue Chrysanthou SC. Wilson faced accusations of mistreating MacInnes, Ghost, and a female writer, despite her claims of being a supporter of women. Wilson refuted these accusations, arguing that her public statements were truthful and not mistreatment.
The defamation case centers around an incident from September 2023 involving MacInnes and Ghost at Bondi Beach. The two women had an uncomfortable experience after Ghost suffered an allergic reaction to cold water. Wilson claims that MacInnes expressed discomfort about the situation, while MacInnes maintains she only described it as “weird” or “strange and bizarre.”
In the trial, Wilson’s legal team argued that MacInnes’s career has not suffered due to Wilson’s social media posts, citing her recent successes, including a record deal and a role in a U.S. theater production. MacInnes is seeking aggravated damages and an injunction to prevent Wilson from making similar claims in the future. The trial is ongoing, with Wilson expected to continue her testimony.
