Arabic version: ريبل ويلسون تواجه محاكمة تشهير بسبب مزاعم التحرش الجنسي
Rebel Wilson is currently embroiled in a defamation trial at the Federal Court of Australia, which is expected to run for nine days. The actress is accused of defaming fellow actor Charlotte MacInnes by suggesting that MacInnes walked back a sexual harassment allegation in exchange for favors from a producer. According to ABC News, the dispute stems from events during the production of Wilson’s directorial debut, “The Deb,” which opened in Australia earlier this month after lengthy delays and legal battles.
MacInnes’s legal team argues that Wilson’s social media posts falsely claimed that she lied about an incident involving producer Amanda Ghost. During the production, Ghost allegedly experienced a medical episode, leading to MacInnes assisting her back to an apartment. Wilson contends that MacInnes later expressed discomfort about the situation, a claim MacInnes denies.
The trial highlights the deterioration of Wilson’s relationship with the film’s producers, which included accusations of financial misconduct amounting to around $900,000. MacInnes’s lawyers assert that Wilson’s posts have damaged her reputation by suggesting she was a liar and worked with producers to block or delay the film’s release.
Wilson’s defense claims that the central issue is whether MacInnes informed her of any harassment and later changed her story. They argue that MacInnes had a motive to alter her account due to Ghost’s influence in the industry. The trial is set to explore these allegations and their implications for both parties involved.
