The defamation case involving Rebel Wilson commenced in a Sydney court, where claims made by Wilson against actress Charlotte MacInnes were described as “malicious concoctions.” According to BBC News, the allegations stem from an incident where MacInnes allegedly felt uncomfortable after sharing a bath with producer Amanda Ghost.

Wilson asserted that MacInnes had retracted a complaint regarding the incident in exchange for career advancements, a claim that MacInnes vehemently denies. Her legal team argued that the actress had not made any complaint to Wilson and that the bath incident was later used by Wilson as leverage in disputes over the film’s budget.

During the first day of the trial, the court examined private texts and emails related to the incident, which occurred on September 5, 2023. Legal representatives described the bath as oversized and noted that both women were fully clothed during the incident, emphasizing that they were not inappropriately touching each other.

Wilson’s lawyer contended that MacInnes lied about the complaint to further her career, citing her subsequent roles and releases as evidence of her successful trajectory. In contrast, MacInnes claims the allegations have damaged her reputation for integrity and honesty, leading her to seek damages for defamation.

The trial is expected to last for nine days, with Wilson facing additional legal challenges in both Australia and the United States regarding contract breaches and further defamation claims related to the film’s production.
