Richard Osman has announced his departure from the BBC quiz show House of Games after an amazing nine years. The popular host revealed the news during his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, stating, “It will no longer be Richard Osman’s House of Games. It will be somebody else’s House of Games.” According to BBC News, he has hosted more than 800 episodes since the show’s inception in 2017.

Osman expressed his gratitude for the experience, mentioning that he would conduct a final week of episodes to transition to the new host, although he did not disclose who that would be. He fondly recalled meeting his wife, Ingrid Oliver, on the show when she participated as a contestant in 2022.

The quiz show, which airs on BBC Two during weekdays, has become a staple of daytime television. Osman has also gained recognition for his bestselling books, including the Thursday Murder Club series, which was adapted into a Netflix series starring Dame Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.

In a statement, Rob Unsworth, the BBC’s head of daytime and early peak commissioning, praised Osman for his significant contribution to the show’s success and expressed excitement about the future of House of Games. The show is currently in its ninth series, attracting about 1.6 million viewers including catch-up and on-demand viewing over a seven-day period.
