Arabic version: يواجه روري ماكلروي تحديًا في الجولة النهائية من الماسترز
Rory McIlroy’s journey at the Masters took a dramatic turn during the third round, where he saw his six-shot lead diminish. According to BBC News, McIlroy ended the day with a one-over par 73, leaving him tied for the lead at 11 under with American Cameron Young.
McIlroy, the defending champion, expressed his awareness of the competition, stating, “I knew it wouldn’t be easy, the quality of the chasing pack is obvious.” Despite his struggles on Saturday, he remains optimistic about his chances heading into the final round.
The Northern Irish golfer, who is aiming to become the fourth player to win consecutive Masters titles, had previously showcased strong play earlier in the tournament. However, his performance on Saturday was hindered by difficulties in accuracy and a lack of confidence in his short game. He noted, “I will go to the range and figure it out. I still have a great chance but if I am going to win I will have to play better.”
The conditions at Augusta National have also influenced scoring, with officials watering the greens, making them softer and leading to more favorable scoring opportunities. This has allowed other competitors, like Young and Sam Burns, to close the gap on McIlroy.
As the final round approaches, a number of players are poised to challenge for the Green Jacket. Young, who recently won the Players Championship, is eager to secure his first major title, while McIlroy’s close friend Shane Lowry is also in contention. With the unpredictable nature of Augusta, the outcome remains uncertain, as highlighted by former champion Nick Faldo’s reminder that no lead is ever safe on this iconic course.
