South Australian Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Sarah Game has transitioned from her own political party, Fair Go for Australians, to join the conservative Family First party. This marks her third political affiliation since entering parliament in 2022, initially elected as the first One Nation MP in South Australia.

According to ABC News, Game’s departure from her own party comes at a time when the state parliament is set to debate her proposed bill aimed at imposing new limits on late-term abortions in South Australia.

Game’s political journey has been tumultuous. She initially left One Nation to become an independent in May 2022, citing issues with the party’s public image. She then founded her own party, which struggled to gain traction, securing only 0.3 percent of the upper house vote during the last state election.

In a statement to 891 ABC Adelaide, Game expressed that her decision to join Family First was driven by the party’s commitment to prioritizing family values. She noted that her political values have remained consistent since she began her career in parliament, emphasizing that Family First aligns more closely with her priorities compared to One Nation.

Family First’s national director, Lyle Shelton, welcomed Game to the party, praising her as “one of the strongest and most courageous advocates for families in any Australian parliament”. Game is set to be the lead upper house candidate for Family First in the upcoming 2030 election, marking a significant moment for the party, which has seen a revival since its initial establishment over two decades ago.
