Arabic version: اسكتلندا تجري تغييرات رئيسية لمباراة حاسمة ضد أيرلندا
Scotland has announced three changes to its lineup as they prepare for a pivotal match against Ireland in the Six Nations Championship. Zander Fagerson returns to the starting XV, while Max Williamson and Grant Gilchrist form a new second-row partnership. This match is crucial for Scotland, who are seeking their first Six Nations title since 1999.
According to BBC News, Scotland’s recent 50-40 victory over France has put them in contention for the championship. However, they face a daunting challenge, having lost their last 11 matches against Ireland and not winning in Dublin since 2010.
Head coach Gregor Townsend has expressed confidence in his squad, stating they are “fresh” and “loving playing together”. He emphasized the importance of focusing on their performance rather than the title implications, describing the upcoming game as a significant opportunity to challenge a historically strong opponent at home.
Gilchrist is set to make his 88th cap, becoming Scotland’s all-time record appearance-maker for a second row. Williamson, who was substituted early in the previous match against Wales, gets another chance to prove himself. Fagerson’s return from the bench aims to strengthen Scotland’s front row against a formidable Irish side.
The matchday 23 also sees new faces on the bench, including back-row Magnus Bradbury, lock Alex Craig, and winger/full-back Kyle Rowe, all making their first appearances in this campaign. Scotland’s path to the title hinges not only on their performance against Ireland but also on the outcome of the match between France and England. If Scotland beat Ireland at the Aviva Stadium and England win away to France, the title will be theirs. A Scotland bonus-point win and a regulation four-point victory for France would also be enough to top the table.
