According to BBC News, Scotland did not win a swimming medal on the second night at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, but Team Scotland swimmers secured further places in finals. The previous evening’s atmosphere, when Duncan Scott won the men’s 200m individual medley, was not repeated on Saturday, although there were positive performances across the programme.

The biggest cheer came as Angharad Evans won the second semi-final of the women’s 100m breaststroke. The 23-year-old booked a place in Sunday’s final with the fastest time. The final is scheduled for 19:20 BST.

An hour later, Katie Shanahan will contest the women’s 100m backstroke final after placing fourth in her semi-final. Shanahan is seeking a second medal after taking silver in the 200m backstroke on Friday. She later swam in Scotland’s 4x100m mixed relay team, which finished fifth but set a new Scottish record.

Scott also competed in the relay, swimming second after Evan Jones and before Evie Davies. Scotland’s team could not match a stronger field. Elsewhere, Sean McCann finished eighth in the men’s 400m freestyle final, Lucy Grieve placed seventh in the women’s 50m butterfly final, and Matthew Ward finished seventh in the men’s 50m backstroke final after breaking the Scottish record.
