I had the opportunity to attend the Shen Yun performance that commenced yesterday and will remain at the Sydney Lyric Theatre until May 7. The performance opened the gates to the ancient Chinese civilization through classical dance and music. The audience were amazed by the level of professionalism and talent displayed by the performers, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire show.

The show began with an introduction to the ancient Chinese culture and its traditions, and then took us on a journey through different dynasties and regions of China. Each performance was accompanied by live music played by the Shen Yun Orchestra, which consisted of traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu, pipa, and guzheng, as well as Western instruments.

One of the highlights of the show was the precision and synchronization of the dancers. Every move was executed with grace and elegance, and the costumes were stunning, colorful, and intricate. It was clear that the performers and organisers had put in a lot of hard work and dedication to perfect their art.

Another impressive aspect of the show was the use of digital backdrops to enhance the performance. The backdrops created a stunning visual display that transported my guests and me to different parts of China, from the snowy mountains to the bustling cities. Moreover, the interaction between the performers and the backdrop further enhanced the experience and the magic of every moment.

The show also included vocal performances, which were equally impressive. The singers had powerful voices that complemented the music and dance performances perfectly, and the lyrics were thought-provoking and inspiring.

It’s worth noting that Shen Yun is associated with the spiritual practice of Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong. The performers of Shen Yun are practitioners of Falun Dafa, and the show’s themes and values are influenced by the practice’s principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forebearance.

Falun Dafa is a spiritual practice that was introduced to the public in China in 1992. It combines meditation and gentle exercises with a moral philosophy centered on these principles. However, in 1999, the Chinese government banned the practice and began a campaign of persecution against its practitioners. Many Falun Dafa practitioners in China have been arrested, tortured, and even killed for their beliefs.

Despite the persecution, Falun Dafa has continued to spread around the world, and Shen Yun serves as a cultural ambassador for the practice and its values. The show aims to showcase the beauty and richness of traditional Chinese culture while also promoting the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance that are central to Falun Dafa.

It’s important to note that while Shen Yun and Falun Dafa are associated, attending the show does not require any specific beliefs or practices. The show is open to everyone, and its themes of cultural preservation and spiritual values are universal.

Overall, Shen Yun provided a unique and unforgettable experience that opened the gates to the lost civilization of ancient China. It was a beautiful display of the richness and diversity of Chinese culture, and my guests and I left the performance feeling enriched and inspired.

I highly recommend this show to anyone who is interested in dance, music, culture, or history. It is a must-see performance that will leave you in awe of the beauty and talent of the performers and the richness of Chinese culture. The show will remain at Sydney Lyric Theatre until May 7, so make sure you don’t miss out, and book your tickets now on www.shenyun.com/Sydney.
