Khartoum, 4 August 2025 – The Government of Sudan has issued a grave warning to the regional and international communities, denouncing what it calls a wide-reaching conspiracy targeting the Sudanese state. In a strongly worded press statement, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation condemned the ongoing aggression by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and alleged foreign mercenaries, framing the conflict as a transnational proxy war with deepening international involvement.
The conflict, which erupted on 15 April 2023, has reportedly drawn in hundreds of thousands of foreign fighters. According to the Sudanese Government, these mercenaries hail not only from neighbouring countries but also from as far afield as Colombia. The statement claims these fighters are being financed and supported by authorities in Abu Dhabi, in what Sudan describes as a direct threat to state sovereignty and regional stability.
“This unprecedented phenomenon poses a serious threat to peace and security in the region and across the continent,” the statement said, emphasising that it “establishes a new and dangerous precedent—one that undermines state sovereignty, violates international norms, and transforms the conflict into a transnational terrorist proxy war.”
The Government of Sudan claims it possesses irrefutable evidence of foreign involvement, some of which has already been submitted to the United Nations Security Council by Sudan’s Permanent Mission in New York. These claims have, according to the statement, been echoed by investigative media and international organisations monitoring the conflict.
By highlighting the alleged sponsorship by Abu Dhabi, Sudan is pointing to what it sees as deliberate external interference designed to destabilise the country and expand the influence of non-state armed groups. The press release warned of the “far-reaching consequences” such escalation could have for both regional and global peace and security.
This latest development adds a critical dimension to an already complex conflict, raising concerns over the erosion of international norms and the growing use of foreign mercenaries in civil wars. With mounting evidence and international scrutiny, Sudan is calling for urgent attention from the global community to prevent further destabilisation in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
