Shoppers flocked to the new Sydney Fish Market on Good Friday, marking the first major holiday since its upgraded premises opened in January. According to The Guardian, the atmosphere was lively as families prepared for the Easter weekend, with many encountering the new facility for the first time.
Retail manager Carmelo Lombardo reported that trade has been bustling since they opened at 5 AM, with customers arriving as early as 2:30 AM to secure their seafood. Shoppers were seen strategizing over how many kilograms of fillets, oysters, scallops, and prawns they would need for their celebrations, indicating a strong demand for fresh seafood during the holiday.
Some long-time patrons expressed their excitement about the new location. Tony, a regular visitor since the old site opened, praised the new building for its cleanliness and spaciousness. “It’s the best thing since sliced cheese,” he remarked, highlighting the ample parking and modern amenities.
However, not all feedback was positive. Angelo Vaxevani from Peter’s Fish Market noted a preference for the old site, describing it as having more of a vibe than the new premises. He acknowledged the crowds were significant, with a large lunch rush expected on Friday.
Despite mixed opinions, the new Sydney Fish Market has quickly become a popular destination for both seafood enthusiasts and casual visitors, marking a successful start to its first Easter in operation.
